**Due to the death of Gurjit's Grandmother this morning Gurjit has suspended campaigning for his re-election to spend time with his family. He wants to apologise to the people he was due to meet with over the last few days. I'm sure everyone will join with us in wishing Gurjit all the best at this difficult time.
Gurjit's Camapign Team**
It's been almost a year since I was first elected as your NUS Scotland President at Carnegie College in Dunfermline, this year has had its share of challenges and victories, but I'm sure you can agree, whether you are supporting my re-election or not, that we are stronger as an organisation. We have been more active on your campus, we have led the debate on funding and we have begun to make the changes our National Union so desperately needs.
I believe in the power of NUS Scotland as a national movement for change and its ability to implement real and long lasting change to help make students lives better. NUS Scotland can and has influenced policy and society, creating a better Scotland for us all. Its my view that as the students of today we have a duty to make sure that we can extend the privileges we have had and challenge the hardships we have all faced in order to create an improved further and higher education experience for all.
I feel privileged to have been able to lead the National Union here in Scotland and I am re standing because quite simply I want to finish the job I have started. I started at a time when our National Union was broken, our members were disengaged and felt left out. The last eight months have seen some real change, but now is not the time to falter, but to renew and redouble our efforts.
Last year I talked of having stronger unions and putting students first. I have done exactly that. I am committed to making sure that the interests of our members always come first. That is why I have been out of the office, on your campus, learning and listening.
The year ahead is one that will see us face major challenges. The funding review will impact on our education for a generation, that's why I've been getting NUS Scotland ready. There is no time for learning on the job, no room for failed structures. I ask for your support in my re-election, I ask that you judge me on my record of clear leadership and real delivery.
